Daily Marketing News, September 24, 2026: YouTube gave creators AI for ideas and editing

On 24 September 2026 YouTube showed how AI is moving into a creator's workflow: topic ideas based on past videos, hints for a draft, thumbnails for different viewer groups and tests of up to 3 variants of the video itself. The same week Jellyfish reported that a quarter of AI answers about shopping link to YouTube. And Google, it seems, has started letting people out of the AI answer and onto websites again.

Story of the day: YouTube built AI into Studio and Shorts and is preparing A/B tests of the video itself

On 24 September 2026, at its annual Made on YouTube event, the platform announced a package of AI tools for creators. The main place where things change is YouTube Studio, the channel back office where a creator checks stats and configures videos. It gets an AI that reads the channel's already published uploads and suggests topics for new videos, and gives personal hints on structure, pacing and story for a finished draft. Studio used to show what had already happened to a published video, now it will also talk about a video that has not gone out yet. The YouTube blog announced it.

The second piece is about covers. A thumbnail is the preview image a person looks at when deciding whether to open a video. AI will be able to generate thumbnail options in the style of a specific channel, so they do not stick out from the video grid, and pick different covers for different audience segments. Then the most noticeable part: A/B testing, meaning showing different variants to different viewers, is moving from thumbnails to the video itself. You will be able to compare up to 3 variants of a video or of its opening. Until now a creator could only test the image and the title, now the first seconds become the thing being tested.

The third piece is about editing. Gemini, Google's AI assistant, is being built into the Shorts editor, Shorts being the short vertical videos, and into the separate YouTube Create mobile app, in the form of a chat. The creator describes in plain text what they want, the system prepares a draft, and then in the conversation you can reorder shots, trim fragments and sync music to the picture. The manual timeline stays, so nobody is cut off from normal editing. Separately, AI comment moderation is in testing, tuned to the preferences of a specific creator, and the likeness detection tool, which looks for videos that use a creator's appearance without permission, is being expanded: voice will be added to face recognition later.

According to the platform itself, 72% of American creators aged 14 to 44 used AI in creating or editing content over the past year. So YouTube is not opening a new habit, it is pulling one inside: what people left for third party services to do now sits in the channel's back office. The platform did not give specific rollout dates for all the tools.

What this changes for anyone growing a channel. Working with hypotheses stops being stuck on the thumbnail: if variants of a video's opening are being tested, you need to shoot and edit with spare material, at least 2 versions of the first seconds. Ideas and rough cuts partly move to an assistant inside the platform, and the value stays in what AI will not assemble: the shoot, the face, the facts, access to people. And one more thing: if comment moderation adapts to the creator, the tone of discussion under a video becomes a setting rather than the weather.

More news, 24 September 2026

01On 23 September 2026 Search Engine Roundtable published data from Peec AI: the share of Google AI answers with links to third party sites grew from almost 0% to more than 25%.

AI Overviews is the AI generated answer Google shows at the top of regular results, above the familiar ten links. The chart was published by Malte Landwehr of Peec AI, a service that tracks mentions in AI answers. All year the measurements showed the opposite: Google was sending people from the AI answer to a site less and less often, and on 22 September 2026 it was reported that some links in the block lead not to a site at all, but into a chat with the AI. The author of the note separately disclosed that he holds a small stake in Peec AI. For site owners this is the first signal in a long time that traffic from the AI answer can come back, but it is one number from one tracker, so it makes sense to watch your own referrals rather than someone else's chart.

02On 23 September 2026 Jellyfish published its Share of Model research: more than a quarter of AI answers about shopping contain direct links to YouTube.

Share of Model is a methodology from the agency Jellyfish that measures which sources and brands end up in the answers of AI chats. Analysts looked at consumer conversations in Australia: roughly every fourth answer about purchases links to YouTube content, and YouTube turned out to be the only platform the AI cites across all tracked product categories. In home goods, AI links to Shorts, the short vertical videos, more often. For anyone selling products this changes what video is for: a review or an unboxing works not only for views, but as a source the AI will show a person who asks which product to choose.

03On 23 September 2026 Google clarified in its help docs that a business profile owner has 4 days to reject an edit suggested by a user.

A business profile is an organisation's listing in Google Search and Google Maps with address, phone, opening hours and photos, and any user can suggest a change to it. The deadline was not stated explicitly in the documentation before, now it says it plainly: if the edit is not rejected within 4 days, Google may apply it to the profile. Someone else's edit can change opening hours, the address or the business category, and the category determines which queries the profile shows up for at all. The practical takeaway for a local business: check notifications about suggested edits at least once every 3 days so you stay inside that window, and keep profile access with a living person, not with a mailbox nobody reads.

04On 23 September 2026 Google AdSense lowered its identity verification threshold from 10 dollars to 0 dollars.

AdSense is Google's system through which site and blog owners place other companies' ads and get paid for them. Identity verification is the document check without which payouts do not go out. The system used to ask for verification once 10 dollars had accumulated in the account, now verification is required effectively straight away, before the first money is earned. This follows from a help doc update spotted by Search Engine Roundtable. For new sites this is an extra step at the start: documents have to be ready before there is any income at all. For those whose documents are already accepted nothing changes, and no other conditions, such as new review times, are mentioned.

05On 23 September 2026 Google Ads expanded automatic audience targeting in AI Max to 7 more languages and added a user journey report.

AI Max is a set of automatic settings in Google Ads search campaigns that picks queries and assembles ads on its own. AI Brief is the prompt where an advertiser describes their business in plain text, and the system uses that description to pick the audience. According to Google, audience targeting via AI Brief now works in Dutch, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Portuguese and Spanish, on top of the previous set of languages. Plus, AI Max now includes a user journey report for search advertising. Separately Google published a help doc on how to fairly compare AI Max with the old dynamic search ads format, where the system takes the headline and the queries from the site's content itself: it describes 2 ways to do it through the experiments tool, a custom traffic split between campaigns and a ready made template. The announcements give no exact rollout dates or limits.

06On 24 September 2026 Meta showed Charm, a wearable device with an AI assistant, with sales promised in December 2026.

Charm is a gadget roughly the size of an AirPods case, with a touchscreen of about 2 inches and a 5G module, and its job is to carry Muse, Meta's personal AI assistant, with you. The price was not announced. At the same time Muse in the smart glasses learned to work with a computer and with retail services: among the named partners are Walmart, Best Buy and Gap, and you can place an order or book an appointment by voice. Also announced were VR glasses with a separate battery and processor unit for spring 2027 and Ray Ban Meta Audio glasses without a camera but with audio recording and playback, going on sale in October 2026. There is one practical thought here for brands: the purchase starts happening inside an AI interface, not on the site where your analytics sits.

07On 23 September 2026 the agency E-Promo Group counted the first half of 2026 in Russian performance advertising: cost per click rose 2.1% while cost per action rose 17.4%.

Traffic barely got more expensive, it just converts worse, and in real estate the gap reached 6% cheaper per click against 28.6% more expensive per lead.

What to do with this: creators, advertisers and site owners

  1. Channel creators: shoot the first 15 seconds in 2 versions, so that when YouTube's video A/B test reaches your account you have something to plug in. For now you can test up to 3 variants of a video or of its opening there.
  2. Product sellers: if you have reviews and unboxings, publish them on YouTube, including as Shorts. According to Jellyfish, roughly every fourth AI answer about shopping links to YouTube, and in home goods the AI more often picks the short videos.
  3. Advertisers: rebuild your reporting so that decisions are made on cost per action, not cost per click. In the first half of 2026 the click barely moved while the lead got noticeably more expensive, and in some categories the two moved in opposite directions.
  4. Local businesses: open your Google business profile notifications every 3 days. You have 4 days to reject someone else's edit, after that Google applies it itself.
  5. Owners of new sites with ads: prepare identity verification documents for AdSense right away, the threshold is now 0 dollars instead of 10.

The day turned out to be about the same thing from two sides: platforms are pulling both content production and audience targeting inside themselves, and the numbers they push back out show that people spend longer choosing and click less often.
