Daily Marketing News, October 21, 2026: ChatGPT Ads will start rewriting your ads on October 30

On October 20, OpenAI warned that starting October 30, ads in ChatGPT will rewrite themselves by default. The same day, Google opened a free small business section in Gemini and announced strict verification for financial advertisers in the US and Canada.
Story of the day: starting October 30, 2026, ChatGPT Ads will rewrite your ads by default
Search Engine Roundtable reported the change on October 20, 2026. ChatGPT Ads is advertising inside the ChatGPT chatbot, with its own dashboard called Ads Manager. Until now, it showed exactly the ad the advertiser uploaded. Nothing more, nothing less.
On Friday, October 30, OpenAI switches on "creative enhancements" for new and already running self-serve campaigns. Here's what that covers: new or rewritten headlines and descriptions, resized images, landing page selection and translation into other languages. These versions can run automatically, without anyone reviewing or approving each one.
The worst case here is simple. You wrote a careful headline, legal signed off on it, and the platform swapped it for its own version with a promise you never made. Or translated it into a language nobody on your team reads. And you find out from a customer.
You can opt out before October 30 or at any time in your Ads Manager settings. Opt outs you've already set at the account and campaign level stay in place. If your ad copy goes through legal or brand approval, you have 9 days to decide. I'd check the settings now rather than on the 29th.

Gemini is Google's AI assistant, with a standalone app and a web version, and until now it had no dedicated business section. Now there's a single hub where owners manage tasks, finances and marketing in one place. It connects to Google Business Profile (the company listing in Search and Maps), Google Ads and Google Workspace, plus third party services: Adobe, Canva, Dropbox, Shopify, Wix, Zoho and Xero. You set your brand style by uploading your website, brand book, fonts or color palette. Images are generated by Nano Banana 2.1, Google's image generation model, and it remembers these settings for future designs. According to Google, the tools will start rolling out worldwide in the coming days for all Gemini users, not just paid subscribers. If you make your own creatives, this is a free way to keep images consistent and handle ads and reviews in one window.
The program is called Financial Services Verification. Right now, advertisers in both countries only go through identity verification, and more than 97% of the ads people see on Google already come from advertisers with verified identities. The new check requires proof that the business is authorized by a regulator or a recognized registry. In the US, Google will check banks against the American Bankers Association registry before their ads launch. In Canada, it's working with the Canadian Bankers Association. The program already runs in 42 countries and covers about 2 billion internet users: the UK started it in 2021, followed by the European Union. Google hasn't said how it will verify US credit unions. If you advertise banks, brokers or fintech in North America, gather your licenses ahead of time.
Certification is a mandatory Google check, and without it ads on these topics don't run in the country. A CFD is a contract for difference: a person gains or loses on a change in an asset's price without buying the asset itself. Licensed companies apply right inside their Google Ads account. Accepted licenses include those from financial regulators FSRA and DFSA and from VARA, the Dubai virtual assets regulator. Even approved ads get the status "Eligible (Limited)", meaning they run with restrictions. Ads for ICOs (initial coin offerings), DeFi trading protocols (decentralized finance services) and crypto loans are still prohibited. If you run crypto or fintech projects in the Middle East, check your license before launching campaigns.
The campaign planner forecasts reach, impressions and cost before launch: enter your parameters, click "Generate" and get a forecast. It also shows how consistently your target audience is active on Reddit, and conversation summaries highlight the main topics in selected subreddits, the platform's topic communities. The optimization score rates a campaign from 0 to 100% with recommendations to match. According to Reddit, advertisers scoring 80% or higher see a 19.6% lower blended cost per action (CPA, the price of a single purchase, lead or signup) than everyone else. That number comes from Reddit itself, and carefully built campaigns tend to be cheaper with or without a score. The 3rd tool splits budget across ad groups automatically. If you're trying Reddit as a new channel, it's now easier to estimate the budget before you start.
AI Overviews is the block with an AI generated summary that Google shows above regular results, and until now it was always labeled. Now some of these blocks on desktop have no label, while mobile still shows it. Other design tests were spotted the same day: Google is trying to remove the horizontal line under the tabs below the search bar, and Bing, Microsoft's search engine, seems to be testing main results without sitelinks (links to site sections under the top result). Google may also have had trouble processing page URLs that contain parentheses. For site owners, this means it's getting harder for people to tell an AI answer from regular results. If your page URLs contain parentheses, check their indexing in Google Search Console, the free dashboard for site owners.
Google Business Profile is the free company listing in Google Search and Maps with address, hours and reviews, and to take control of it, the owner has to verify it. Until now, the options were phone or text, email, video call and a paper postcard. Now uploading a photo of a government ID joins the list. In the same thread, Google representative Dan Boguslavsky warned that review appeals are taking longer than usual because of the high volume. For local businesses that struggled with video calls or postcards, the new method may finally help them claim their listing. If you're disputing removed or fake reviews, expect to wait longer than usual, so file appeals right away.
Netflix, the streaming service, has been selling ads in its cheaper ad supported plan for 4 years. The target dropped by 300 million dollars, or 10%, and the company blamed late delivery of the tools advertisers need. PPC Land discusses this alongside automatic ad rewriting in ChatGPT Ads and notes that automation in advertising is easier to promise than to build. For marketers, it's a useful benchmark: young ad platforms, whether streaming or chatbots, grow slower than they promise, and their buying and measurement tools aren't yet at Google's level. Money spent on these platforms is best treated as a test, not your core budget.
What advertisers, creators and business owners should do
- If you run ChatGPT Ads: decide before October 30 whether to keep automatic creative rewriting. If your copy goes through legal or brand approval, turn the feature off in Ads Manager settings.
- Small businesses and social media managers: open the Gemini business section once it appears, upload your brand book and connect Google Ads and Google Business Profile so creatives and review management live in one free tool.
- If you advertise financial or crypto services: gather your licenses in advance. Certification is already underway in the UAE, and requirements in the US and Canada take effect in early 2027.
- Local businesses: if you're disputing reviews on Google Business Profile, file appeals now, since processing times are longer than usual.
- If you're testing Reddit: run the campaign planner before launch and treat the optimization score as a hint, not a guarantee.
